Hi and Welcome to the "About Me" page of the site! If you are curious about me, then hopefully that means you are interested in my work! And nothing could please me more! My name is Cheryl Disque and I am the artist behind the scenes of The Wooden Palette Country Crafts.

I have been an artist since the first day I picked up a pencil. I attended art lesson after art lesson as a child and dabbled in many different art forms. I finally settled on Interior Design, went to art school and earned my degree. After college I pursued my design career, but I soon realized that it was not satisfying my artistic nature.

I began looking for new creative outlets and it just seemed right that I would begin working with wood. Growing up, my father was always working with wood and over the years has built a wonderful wood workshop. I started designing whimsical and fun designs and then my father taught me how to create them out of wood. Once the wood was cut, I began to see my designs come to life as I hand painted each one. Once I had built a small inventory, I started to sell my work in a few small shows. I had a wonderful response to my work and my artistic endeavor began to take off. I now do several large shows throughout the year and continue to create new work for my website.

I now offer plaques and t-shirts, which feature my humorous original watercolors. I have also introduced a hand painted sign line to my inventory. This new line I especially love because I have always been drawn to the written word. Certain sayings I just seem to identify with and I love the fact that I can turn a few meaningful words, into an artistic sign that I can hang on a wall, see them and be inspired at any given time.

My latest creative endeavor is illustrating. At one of the many shows I attend an author, who was looking for an illustrator for his latest book, approached me. He happened to pass by my booth and saw my watercolor tiles. It was one of those life-changing moments where, for the first time in my life, I was in the right place at the right time. A few months later I could call myself a published illustrator. It was a wonderful experience and one I hope to repeat in the near future.

I put a lot of time and energy into creating original work and I feel that if I can make someone smile and laugh or be touched by something that I have created then I have accomplished a lot.
